Wayne County Council for the Arts

WEEKLY CRAFTING CIRCLE: Come to work on a knitting, crochet, embroidery or other needlework project. The goal is to create a warm welcoming environment for new and experienced crafters to learn and collaborate. Includes free knitting lessons, beginner to intermediate. Free pattern and instruction for a knitted hat or scarf.

Day: Tuesdays, February 6 through March 27 from 10am-12noon

PAPERMAKING WORKSHOP  (Partially funded by the Nelson B. Delavan Foundation)

Learn how to make your own paper using recycled papers, natural fibers and your imagination!

Teacher: Sharon Woolever    

Day: Saturday March 17  from 1-4pm

Cost: $25 members/$30 non-members.

Supplies: Students please bring a grocery bag of paper such as tissue paper, brown paper, bakery bags, parchment paper, watercolor paper, anything you want to recycle except newspaper; and dried organic materials, flowers, petals, leaves, onion skins, etc.; also yarns & fibers. Bring any containers with interesting textures or patterns or shapes that you think might be good for molding the paper into vessels, containers, etc.

WOODCARVING DEMO  (Partially funded by the Nelson B. Delavan Foundation)

NOTE: This demonstration will take place at the artist's studio, not at Wayne Arts.  

​Carving Jewelry from Wood - The class will introduce ways of creating wearable art using wood, pigments, power tools, and hand tools. Demonstrations, standard and unique techniques shared in this one workshop. This session may lead into offerings of regular classes for those who wish to pursue this further.

HYPERTUFA GARDEN POT WORKSHOP (Partially funded by the Nelson B. Delavan Foundation)
Back by popular demand, each participant will form a planter/pot using a mixture of Portland cement, vermiculite and peat moss in a two part mold. Each pot will be wrapped and left to cure/firm for 48 hours before unmolding. There may be time to use a large leaf as as a mold as well.
This will be a hands-on 2 hr workshop.

JEWELRY MAKING WORKSHOP (Partially funded by the Nelson B. Delavan Foundation)

LET’S GET WIRED-1 Want to learn how to create wire wrapped pendants? Start with this easy project:
Learn how to create Wire Wrapped Bird’s Nest Pendants! Tools will be provided for class use. Class fee
includes enough supplies for one necklace.​

PAINTING WITH ALCOHOL INKS WORKSHOP (Partially funded by the Nelson B. Delavan Foundation)

Alcohol ink is generally used on non- porous service.  The student's the will create unique pieces on ceramic tile, yupo paper, and glass. Instruction and demos will be given for the many interesting ways to use this fun medium.​
