“ANYTHING GOES” EXHIBIT
The Exhibit was a great success. Over 50 pieces were submitted. What a variety! It's amazing what could be done with some "salvaged gems".
Our winners are shown below with the judge's comments.
FIRST PLACE: “Field of Bold” - Kaylinda Schuhart—Ethereal mood. Great combination of subtle and bold. Impeccable technique. Great color sensibility!
SECOND PLACE: “Long Time Not Played” - Marshall Handfield—Unusual subject creates an incredible sense of longing. Beautiful surface. Looks like any number of media—it’s like a chameleon.
THIRD PLACE: “ Old Barn/Mirror” - David Folts—Simplicity and nostalgia. This piece makes us yearn for a simpler lifestyle (before cable TV and CNN).
HONORABLE MENTION: “Webster Lake View”—Joann K. Long—This piece accomplishes an amazing sense of mood with very subtle color. Very crisp and inviting. Deserves to be bigger.
FIRST PLACE: “Pristine versus Polluted”—Diane Murphy Eagle—Tells an important story with ordinary objects. Great use of color and texture. Does not seem forced...everything fits!
SECOND PLACE: “Waste Not” - Becky Bialaszewski—Brilliant use of text as texture. Well-crafted mix of simple and complex. Quilt is traditional but innovative.
THIRD PLACE: “Faerie Lamp” - Ruth Diamond—Enchanting. More than the sum of the parts. Functional as well! Great use of found objects.
HONORABLE MENTION: “ Blue Birdbath” - Deborah Ramage—I liked it because it was functional aesthetic. It looked like what it was supposed to be. I see the colors and shapes being thirst-quenching to the eye...the same way the water might be to a bird.
The 40th Anniversary Party was more successful than we ever imagined. A big thank you to our members and those that attended this fundraising event and our artists who gave from their hearts with their beautiful art work. Our emcee John Kucko provided an enlighten insight on his love of photograpy and how much he enjoys wandering around Wayne County taking photos of special places. We were also entertained by The Big Blue House band. The Heights Restaurant, managed by Mike Munger, provided a great venue along with wonderful food.
An event like this couldn't have been accomplished if it wasn't for our Gala Planning Committee Mary Christopher, Sandy DeVolder, Bonnie Evangelist, Eileen Godfrey, Elaine Liberio, Alicia Linzy, Marge marcano, Carole Nary, Angela Possemato, Deborah Ramage, Shirley Stowell, Ken Townsend, Sharon Weimer, Marlene Williams and Sharon Woolever.
